A moment of calm in both hands. Thread your fingers through the wide, comfortable handle and cup the dimpled body while the steam curls up. The subtle hammered texture moulds to the hand for a reassuring hold and a soft play of light. Too good to hide away, this is the mug that will live on the counter and join every break.

Hand crafted in Portugal from Barton Croft’s stoneware clay, it is sturdy for daily use and refined enough for a quiet after dinner tea. Dishwasher safe, microwave safe and oven safe, so care is as simple as the ritual. Approximately 10 cm in diameter and 7.5 cm high with a smooth natural clay base.

Seaglass feels soft and translucent for a fresh note, Milk is calm and collected, Sunrise brings a joyful lift, and Dijon adds bistro warmth. Mix and match for a set that feels curated and true to you. Gift boxed individually.

Why We Love It at Table & Tallow
The hand feel is everything. The texture gives grip without fuss and the glazes make even a quick tea feel considered. Seaglass next to Milk is a quietly perfect pairing.

About

Barton Croft

Barton Croft brings intentional simplicity to the table, the kind that makes a London townhouse kitchen feel like a calm gallery space. Every piece is designed for crafted function and everyday pleasure, the quiet joy of a mug that sits softly in your hand or a generous plate that frames a favourite recipe.

The name comes from a real place. Barton Croft was a family field by the river, a summer gathering spot under old oaks where plates were piled high and laughter ran long. Those easy moments shaped founder Laurena’s vision. Pottery became the way to honour them, taking raw clay and forming it into useful, beautiful objects that invite people to linger.

Today the collection is thoughtfully produced in Portugal, after a year of visiting workshops to find the right partners. Every stage involves a person and every piece is touched by hand, keeping the tactile character that first defined the brand while bringing consistency with the finest clays.

This is tableware to live with. Understated forms that mix and match with ease. Durable and chip resistant for daily use. Safe for the dishwasher, microwave and oven. Pieces that look refined on a linen table, then stack neatly in a busy cupboard.

Barton Croft is not about perfection. It is about the simple, sometimes messy moments that make a home feel loved. Serve soup, pass the salad, tell the story, stay for another cup. That is the Barton Croft way.

Table & Tallow

Styling and Placement Tips

How we set the table

Everyday easy

One plate, a linen napkin folded simply, a short tumbler and a butter knife. Add a sprig of herbs for a quiet lift.

Supper with friends

Stack a Large Plate under a Small Plate to frame the course. Finish with a gently crumpled napkin and a taper candle.

Sharing style

Scatter plates down the table with bowls and small dishes between. Let guests reach in and help themselves.

Colour pairings we love

Milk

Calm with stainless steel cutlery and clear glass. Add stone or linen for texture. For a gentle accent, pair Milk with Seaglass.

Seaglass

Fresh with white linen and citrus on the table. Mix with Milk for coastal ease.

Sunrise

Warm with amber glass and ripe fruit. A joyful pop under a Milk bowl for breakfast.

Dijon

Bistro energy with striped napkins and red wine. Grounds a mixed setting of Milk and Seaglass.

Placement notes

Keep the rim a thumb from the table edge for a relaxed restaurant feel.

Angle cutlery slightly toward the plate to soften the setting.

Layer Small over Large and rotate the top plate a touch so the hammered texture catches the light.

Space Serving Bowls so handles and serving spoons do not clash.

Leave a clear line between Mugs and plates so the handle turns outward and feels welcoming.

Serve suggestions

Small Plate
Toast with berries, starters and sides, olives and almonds, a slice of cake.

Large Plate
Pasta with sauce, roast chicken and greens, generous salad, cheese and fruit for the table.

Everyday Bowl
Cereal and yoghurt, soup and noodles, crumble with custard, ice cream and berries.

Serving Bowls

Small Olives, nuts, hummus, guacamole, chocolates with coffee, sugar bowl with the dimpled jug.

Medium Salad for two to four, roasted vegetables, rice and pasta sides, summer berries.

Large Family salad, pasta bake, risotto, fruit bowl through the week, crumbles and warm puddings.

Mug
Morning tea or coffee, rich hot chocolate, a simple broth on a cold day.

Mix and match ideas

Milk with Dijon for warmth that feels like a cosy bistro.

Milk with Sunrise for brunch that feels sunny even on a grey day.

Milk with Seaglass for serene evenings with candles and sea salt.

Add a single contrast colour per place setting to keep things curated not busy.

Display at home

Stack by colour on open shelves and rotate the front piece weekly.

Tuck a linen between stacks to protect the surface and add a soft note.

Keep a Serving Bowl Large out as a fruit bowl to bring easy life to the kitchen.

Store Mugs on a rail with the handles aligned for a clean gallery feel.

Photograph it like a stylist

Natural window light, side on, no flash.

A simple linen or a weathered board under the plate.

A small scatter of crumbs or citrus zest to hint at life in progress.

Shoot one close detail of the hammered texture. Then a pulled back shot with glassware and a napkin.

Care that keeps them beautiful

All pieces are dishwasher safe. For a softer patina over time, alternate between hand wash and dishwasher.

Bowls and mugs are microwave safe.

All Serving Bowls and Everyday Bowls are oven safe. Warm the empty bowl briefly for even heat, then place on a trivet.

After the oven, let the piece rest a moment on a dry cloth before stacking.
